Drain & Sewer Repair and Replacement Services in Tampa Bay

Drain and sewer problems are not always caused by a simple stoppage. Cracked, corroded, collapsed, improperly pitched, or otherwise deteriorated piping can cause recurring drainage problems that cannot be permanently corrected by clearing or cleaning the line alone.

Experts Plumbing Services, LLC provides professional drain and sewer repair and replacement for residential and commercial properties throughout the Tampa Bay area. From isolated spot repairs and sectional pipe replacements to complete drain system repiping, we can identify the underlying problem and determine the appropriate solution for the condition of your plumbing system.

We repair and replace drain and sewer piping both inside and outside the home, including piping underneath concrete slabs and underground sewer lines.

Signs of a Damaged Drain or Sewer Line

A recurring stoppage doesn’t necessarily mean the pipe itself has failed, but repeated drainage problems can indicate an underlying issue that should be investigated.

Possible signs of damaged or deteriorated drain and sewer piping include:

  • Recurring drain or mainline stoppages
  • Multiple fixtures backing up or draining slowly
  • Unusual gurgling from drains or toilets
  • Sewage odors
  • Wastewater backing up into tubs, showers, or floor drains
  • Wet or unusually soft areas of soil around underground piping
  • Drainage problems that return shortly after the line has been cleared
  • Known problems with older drain and sewer piping

How Do you Determine What is Wrong With a Drain or Sewer?

The appropriate diagnostic method depends on the symptoms, location of the problem, and condition of the plumbing system. Sometimes an active stoppage must first be cleared before the piping can be properly evaluated.

We highly recommend performing a sanitary drain camera inspection to examine accessible portions of the drainage system visually. Camera inspections can help identify deterioration, cracks, root intrusion, separated piping, and other conditions that may be contributing to recurring drainage problems.

Common Causes of Drain & Sewer Line Failure

Drain and sewer piping can fail for many reasons, particularly as plumbing systems age.

Some of the problems we commonly encounter include:

  • Corrosion and deterioration
  • Cracked or broken piping
  • Collapsed sections of pipe
  • Root intrusion
  • Separated or failed pipe connections
  • Improper pitch or slope
  • Bellies or low areas in drain lines
  • Significant buildup or restrictions
  • Physical damage to underground piping
  • Shifting soil or ground movement
  • Aging pipe materials reaching the end of their effective service life

Older homes may contain cast iron, clay, or other aging drain materials that have deteriorated after decades of use. However, the age of the piping alone does not determine whether it needs to be replaced. We evaluate the condition of the existing system and the nature of the problems before determining the appropriate repair.

Does Every Drain or Sewer Problem Require Repair?

No, many drainage problems are caused by an obstruction or buildup rather than physical damage to the piping.

If the pipe itself remains serviceable, professional drain clearing may be enough to remove an active stoppage and restore normal flow. More extensive drain cleaning, as with the case of hydro-jetting, can remove accumulated material from inside the drainage piping.

The symptoms can be very similar, which is why diagnosing the cause matters. We do not want to recommend pipe replacement when the system simply needs to be cleared or cleaned – just as we do not want to repeatedly clear a drain when damaged piping is ultimately the underlying cause.

What Does a Drain or Sewer Repair or Replacement Look Like?

Drain and sewer repairs can range from relatively localized plumbing problems to damaged sections of the larger sanitary drainage system. A drain problem may involve a failed P-trap, waste arm, fitting, or section of drainage pipe serving an individual fixture, while more extensive problems can occur within the sanitary piping beneath the building or along the exterior sewer line.

Many localized drain repairs can be completed by accessing the affected piping through drywall or from behind vanities, cabinets, and other fixtures. Depending on the location of the problem, our plumbers may be able to repair or replace the damaged section without disturbing larger portions of the plumbing system.

For problems further downstream, repairs may involve cracked or deteriorated piping, failed connections, root intrusion, or other damaged sections that interfere with proper drainage. These repairs may require access beneath a concrete slab, underground, or along the exterior of the property.

The appropriate repair depends on what has failed, where the affected piping is located, how much of the system is involved, and the condition of the surrounding pipe. When the problem is limited to a particular area, we can often repair or replace that section while leaving the remaining serviceable plumbing in place.

Spot & Sectional Drain & Sewer Repairs

When damage is limited to a specific area, replacing the entire drainage system may not be necessary.

A spot or sectional repair allows us to access the affected area, remove the damaged portion of piping, and properly connect replacement piping to the existing drainage system.

This approach may be appropriate for isolated cracks, failed connections, root intrusion, or other issues confined to a particular section of the system.

Drain & Sewer Lines Connected to Septic Systems

Experts Plumbing Services does not service septic tanks or drain fields. However, we can repair or replace the property’s drainage and sewer piping leading to the septic tank.

This includes repairing or replacing a damaged sewer line and properly connecting the property’s drainage piping to the septic tank when necessary.

If the drainage problem originates within the septic tank, drain field, or other component of the septic system itself, a qualified septic service provider will be required.

Can Drain Lines Beneath a Concrete Slab Be Repaired?

Yes, drainage piping located beneath a concrete slab can sometimes be accessed directly when a repair or sectional replacement is necessary.

Depending on the layout of the plumbing and the extent of the problem, another option may be to reroute the affected drainage piping and abandon the failed portion of the existing system. Rerouting can sometimes reduce the amount of slab access required, although it is not the appropriate solution for every property or plumbing configuration.

We evaluate the location of the damaged piping, existing plumbing layout, accessibility, and scope of the problem to determine which approach makes the most sense.

Complete Drain & Sewer Pipe Replacement

When deterioration or damage affects a significant portion of the drainage system, repeated spot repairs may no longer be the most practical long-term solution. In these situations, Experts Plumbing Services can replace larger sections or complete portions of the property’s drain, sanitary, or sewer piping.

Inside a home or building, this may involve replacing deteriorated sanitary drainage piping, including piping located within walls, ceilings, floors, or beneath a concrete slab. In apartments, condominiums, high-rises, and other commercial or multifamily properties, sanitary line replacement may also involve coordinating access to piping that serves multiple fixtures, units, or areas of the building.

Exterior sewer line replacement involves accessing the underground piping outside of the building. Depending on the extent of the problem, we can excavate and replace a damaged section or replace the complete sewer line when necessary. Problems such as deterioration, root intrusion, collapsed piping, failed joints, improper pitch, and other physical damage can all contribute to sewer line failure.

For piping beneath a concrete slab, repeated individual failures can be an indication of a failing system. In some situations, we are able to avoid saw-cutting through the slab by abandoning the system. If the entire system needs to be replaced, rerouting a new sanitary drain line may be a more practical option than cutting a trench through the slab and across the home.

Our plumbers evaluate the location, material, accessibility, and overall condition of the existing system to determine whether a sectional repair, larger replacement, or complete replacement is the appropriate solution.

What Types of Drain and Sewer Pipe Can You Repair or Replace?

Drainage systems throughout Tampa Bay contain a variety of piping materials depending on the property’s age, construction, and previous plumbing work.

Our plumbers encounter and work with materials including:

  • PVC
  • Cast Iron
  • Copper
  • Clay
  • SDR
  • Other materials

What Is the Difference Between Sanitary Drain Piping and a Sewer Line?

Although the terms are often used interchangeably in everyday conversation, they can describe different portions of a property’s drainage system.

Sanitary drain piping generally refers to the pipes located inside or beneath the building. This piping carries wastewater away from sinks, toilets, showers, tubs, and other plumbing fixtures, to eventually tie into the sewer.

A sewer line generally refers to the exterior portion of the drainage system that carries wastewater away from the building and towards the municipal sewer connection or other approved wastewater disposal system.

Can You Install New Drain Lines for Additions or Renovations?

Yes, drain and sewer work is not limited to repairing existing systems. We can install new sanitary drainage piping for additions, renovations, buildouts, and other projects that require new plumbing. New drainage work may involve extending an existing system, adding new fixture locations, relocating drains and drainage piping, or installing entirely new sections of sanitary piping as part of a larger plumbing project.

When permits are required, Experts Plumbing Services can pull the appropriate plumbing permits for work performed directly for the property owner and help coordinate inspections as needed.
